A tomato plant is great to grow in your own garden because it demands minimum care. As long as it is planted in well drained soil that is rich in nutrition and gets a minimum of 8 hours of full sun every single day the tomato plants will thrive and bring you large and tasty fruit as a reward. Only thing to watch out for is frost, excessive watering, dryness and more physical injuries, such as you accidentally step on it. All of this might seem as much but usually there is nothing to worry about.
Because of the sort of weak composition you should plant it close to a wall or a fence so it has something to help it climb and can take in as much heat from the sun as possible. It will even shelter the plant a bit. Especially if you live in a country where your tomato plant can be exposed to strong winds or hard showers it is important that it has some kind of shelter. You might consider building some kind of shelter for your tomato plant, such as a little hut or tent. This will not only protect tomatoes from the rain but also keep the soil surrounding your plant somewhat dry. As mentioned before, excessive watering will not be good for the plants.
When planting the seeds be sure that you turned the soil over and mixed it with lots of organic fertilizer. That is the most important thing because it will ensure the seeds have a good start and that they will grow at a tremendous rate. It is extremely important that the soil is hot enough for the tomato plant seeds. Both the tomato seeds and the tomato plants are sensitive to cold weather and just a single night of frost could destroy your entire cultivation. Try to follow the local weather and adjust after it, or if you can, build a greenhouse. A greenhouse is perfect for non-tropical climates because it will keep tomato plants hot and sunny.
The plants will then thrive for at least 7 weeks before it can start bearing fruits, but once it has started you will most probably have more tomatoes than you will ever need.
