What Are Dripless Candles

Dripless candles are a type of candle that is manufactured to burn at a temperature that burns wax off in perfect balance with the wick. Normal candles burn to quickly for the wax of a candle to evaporate, meaning it eventually drips down the sides creating a burning hazard, as well as making for an unsightly centerpiece. Dripless candles achieve this perfect balance in one of two ways, or sometimes a combination of both. First, they utilize two layers of wax.

The bulk of the candle is made up of traditional wax with a melting point of 135 degrees. For the last few dips, the candles are coated in a high temperature wax that will not melt below 150-160 degrees. This creates a cylindrical shape that contains the melted inner wax until it can be burned off. The second way smokeless dripless candles are made is by testing and tweaking to find the perfect thickness of wick for the candle. The way a wick is matched with wax and treatments is a trade secret kept by candle manufacturers of dripless candles.

There are a number of reasons why dripless candles are a much better alternative to traditional candles. Primarily, they are much safer for use in candle holders such as candle chandeliers or scones that hang above peoples heads. The risk of hot wax dripping on peoples heads is not worth the risk of using traditional candles. The second benefit of dripless candles is their maintained beauty throughout the night. Imagine using 24 inch taper candles that weren’t dripless in an elaborate centerpiece. After just a few hours the drips on the side of the candle would transform it into an unsightly mess of melted candle wax. Dripless candles burn straight and clean until they run out of wax, and as an added benefit also burn much longer than traditional candles.
