Whatever you do to it, does your garden not have that special look? Have you thought of adding garden edging to it? Garden edging is one of those gardening secrets that perhaps aren’t obvious. Once the new edging is added there is an immediate benefit of definition and structure in the garden. Clearly marked areas can highlight parts of the garden as features, the effect can be amazing and change a garden that did not look loved to one that appears to have love and planning heaped upon it!
A completely new garden set out in this way will benefit by showing the layout first it will help with plant design layout and planting. Giving a finished look long before it’s actually finished and working in the garden a pleasurable experience.
The type of edging used is personal choice there is a range of products and materials to choose from. Lots of gardeners like natural materials like wood and stone in their garden but you could choose cheap garden edging like easy to fit plastic strips, an edging is an edging!
There really is a lot of choices to be had, one I like is to use bricks, they are easy to get and can be used in different ways for many differing effects. They can lie flat on the ground showing the wide or narrow side of the brick depending on space or preference, you can cement them together or leave loose, they can be submerged into the ground the same way or partially submerged on a corner leaving a jagged or dogtooth style on view.
There is a cost involved with most garden edging material just like if you have to buy garden fencing. If this is a problem some lateral thinking could be used by foraging in the countryside for rock, stones or wood which can look great as edging in the garden, it should be said that when foraging anywhere it is sensible to check and see if permission needs to be given before you start.
Recycling also is a possibility, glass bottles are certainly possible to use, and there may be many other opportunities to recycle maybe cans or tyres. If these items are used safety issues needs to be considered if children play in the garden now or in the future.
Perhaps in your garden you could use plants or shrubs to form the garden edging the effect can be tremendous but not as instant a process as other types of edging together with some maintenance required.
So if you need a way to really add a stylish look and finish to your garden, use some garden edging and enjoy the transformation.
