How to Decorate a Bathroom in Black

Mention the subject of bathroom decoration to almost anyone and the mental picture conjured up will generally be one of bright or aquatic tones, such as yellow, blue or possibly green, with white porcelain units, chrome taps and little else. This has been the standard of bathrooms for generations and continues to be the most popular design principal adopted all over the world. It is very simple to see why, as the bright surface promotes light and freshness throughout, retaining a functional and clean feeling which is important to most people.

However, that is not to see that this is the only viable design idea for the modern bathroom. As more and more people begin to experiment with interior decor concepts and ideas, a number of alternatives are popping up here and there which are simply too good to be ignored and catch on like wildfire. Of course, some are downright ghastly, but the odd idea is so good it spurs the beginning of a new school of thought regarding the whole subject. One recent example of this is the use of black in the bathroom.

Black has long been revered for its rich, opulent properties when carefully integrated into a decorating color scheme, so why should the bathroom be any different? True, it may seem a world away from the clean, fresh qualities afforded by white, but there is nothing to say that the two cannot be combined and therefore provide the best of both worlds!

Of course, it is not suggested for a second that anyone paint a bathroom entirely in black with matching black units…lighting the place would be pretty much impossible! However, there are endless walk in shower ideas along with sinks, taps, toilets and whatnot that include differing degrees of black or black trimming in order to add a touch of elegant class. Furthermore, the inclusion of other adornments such as black shelves or an ornate black sunburst mirror will never fail to add a feel of luxury.
